For workers and employers, “Retro” isn’t a fashion statement

Workplace insurance (a.k.a. L & I) might not grab headlines the way an $8 billion revenue shortfall does, but it affects every worker and business in Washington.

“Retro” is an L & I program that lets employers pool risk in exchange for improving safety records. Last year, a review of Retro found a coding error that had cost the state between $10 and $15 million a year since 1994.

Legislators took notice, and this year introduced Senate Bill 6035 to make some changes. The Capitol Record’s Niki Sullivan has written an informative and concise summary about Retro and the proposed legislation – it’s worth a read:
