Change is afoot at EOI. I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our team: Maggie Humphreys, our new Communications Manager. Maggie brings her passion for “putting values into action” at just the right time – our former communications manager Alex Stone is heading off to the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs for a Master of Public Administration degree.
Maggie brings a strong background in public affairs communications, having worked both on local political campaigns and in the private sector, building coalitions and community support for progressive public policies. She also serves as the Communications Chair for the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Maggie grew up in Puyallup, Washington and graduated from Franklin College in Switzerland. When she isn’t delving into policy, you might find Maggie jogging around the arboretum or enjoying her favorite pastime of watching the Cougars beat the Huskies. A fellow fan of public transit, she buses to work.
Maggie is passionate about leveraging smart communications strategy to execute progressive changes, or as she puts it, “take the numbers and the policies out of classroom and spreadsheets and into a real pathway for action”.
Our departing staff member, Alex Stone, began working at EOI about 5 years ago as an intern – we’re fortunate to have recognized his natural talents and put them to good use here doing communications and technology work full-time.
Alex wasn’t just a regular writer for EOI’s blog – he also headed up EOI’s work on Social Security (he was a co-writer on the Just Scrap the Cap video), and was our go-to graphics design guy. Among his numerous contributions to EOI, Alex’s “parting gift” is perhaps the best: a brand-new website that integrates all of EOI’s blog posts, publications, and other materials together in an easy-to-navigate (and very user-friendly!) format. We’ll miss his sense of humor and can-do approach!
You can meet Maggie and the rest of the EOI team at our August 16th Summer Patio Party – complete with sunshine, all-you-can-eat Latin food and live music by Si Limon, dubbed “Seattle’s best dance band” by The Stranger.
