Social Security = Retirement security for 35 million Americans

March 16, 2010 | Alex Stone

ShareThe Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) has just released a new report on the importance of Social Security titled Social Security: Vital to Retirement Security for 35 Million Women and Men.

Their research finds that Social Security provides benefits to more than 85% of men and women over the age of 65. But that’s not all. On average, Social Security is also the largest single source of income for both men and women 65 and older — a vital ‘leg’ in the stool of retirement security that includes pensions, retirement plans, and other assets.
