Social Security works – especially for women. It is the largest source of income for senior women and, because women still earn less than men in the workplace, and have less access to retirement benefits on the job, Social Security is the last defense against poverty for women in their golden years.
That’s why Terry O’Neill, President of the National Organization of Women is coming to Seattle on June 4th. Terry wants to make sure the nation’s Social Security system is strong and that women understand how to protect and defend this vital program.
Terry will be joining Rep. Adam Smith (WA – 9th District), and Marilyn Watkins (Policy Director here at EOI) for a community forum on the future of Social Security, as a growing national movement to strengthen and expand Social Security pushes back against decades of misinformation and political attacks by opponents.
Date/Time: Wednesday June 4, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Bethany United Church of Christ, 6230 Beacon Ave S, Seattle
Featuring:
- Comments from Terry O’Neill (National President of NOW), Rep. Adam Smith (WA – 9th District), and Marilyn Watkins (Policy Director, Economic Opportunity Institute)
- An update on the status of the Social Security system
