Building an Economy that Works for Everyone

3 ways you can help make health care a human right in Washington

Our work to create a stronger health care system is far from over. Even after the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the expansion of Medicaid nearly one in ten Washington residents still does not have health insurance, and factors like income, race and immigration status still determine our health outcomes.

It’s time to take the next step.

The Economic Opportunity Institute has joined the movement to affirm that Health Care is a Human Right, and we’ve got big goals around securing universal health care in Washington State. The first step in our multi-year campaign is to compel our state legislature to declare its intent to cover all Washingtonians and establish a universal health care system by 2020.

Our work is already underway. Last month, “Intent to Cover All” legislation was introduced in the House (HB1321) and the Senate (SB5305), and is being heard in the House Health Care and Wellness Committee today. We need your help to send a strong message to lawmakers!

Here are three ways you can join the statewide day of action:

  1. Send an email to your legislators to let them know you support the Intent to Cover All legislation (sample letter below),
  2. Share this graphic to Facebook or other social media to encourage your friends to take action, and
  3. Call the legislative hotline at 1-800-562-6200 and urge your legislators to support House Bill 1321 and Senate Bill 5305. (You’ll be routed to your legislator’s office.)

The Health Care is a Human Right campaign is a growing movement endorsed by dozens of organizations. You can read more about the campaign and stay in the loop by visiting www.healthcareisarightwa.org.

Thank you for all that you do,
