Last week, the FAMILY Act, a bill that would establish a national paid family and medical leave insurance program, was introduced to Congress for the first time. The National Partnership for Women and Families joined together with more than 415 groups nationwide – including the Economic Opportunity Institute and the Washington Work and Family Coalition – to urge Congress to pass the FAMILY Act.
Many of the FAMILY Act’s supporters spoke last week about their experience with working moms struggling to gain access to paid leave. Speakers included Thomas Nides, vice chairman of Morgan Stanley and a former deputy secretary of state, and Annette Bonilla, Human Resources Director at Environmental Science Associates. Both Stanley and Bonilla highlighted how paid leave betters their employees, their business and the economy as a whole.
Check out video of Stanley and Bonilla speaking at the FAMILY Act press conference last week.
